New Richmond's new city administrator and utilities manager has hit the ground running.
Already by Monday afternoon, April 23, his first day on the job, Mike Darrow has received an extensive tour of the city and its municipally-owned facilities by former Administrator Dennis Horner. He also met with various city employees and elected officials.
Tonight, he is slated to attend his first official meeting -- the Government Entities Network, comprised of representatives from the city, neighboring townships, the school district and the Village of Star Prairie.
"For now, we're just getting to know people and taking everything in," he said in a brief interview. "We're just observing things."
Darrow comes to New Richmond from northern Minnesota.
He has been city administrator and utility manager for Gilbert, Minn., (population 1,800) since January 2009. He had worked for the past 15 years as a consultant and administrator in the public and private sectors.
He holds a Master’s degree in community development and urban planning from Minnesota State University in Mankato and an undergraduate degree in urban studies from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.
