The May Fair Event & Sale will take place on Saturday, May 12, at the St. Croix County Fair Grounds – Fairplex, in Glenwood City.
Gates will open for inspection of the auction items at 4 p.m. with the formal program starting at 5 p.m. The May Fair Event & Sale is sponsored by The Friends of the St. Croix County Fairplex in cooperation with the St. Croix County 4-H Dairy Committee. The event will be held in the Commercial Building on the Fairgrounds-Fairplex. The building will be heated if needed.
A ham and roasted chicken dinner, catered by local caterer Ruth Hurtgen, will be served through the afternoon. The dinner is served for a free will donation event. Additionally there will be free milk and 25-cent cent ice cream cones available, while supplies last.
The entertainment for the event will feature Joe Sir’s “Tribute to Elvis Presley.” The tribute to Elvis covers the different periods of Elvis’s career, including the hits of the 1950’s, his movies in the 1960’s, his gospel music and his record breaking years in Las Vegas during the 1970’s.
There will also be local talent from the Roberts Ribbon Reapers 4-H Club as they perform their act from the 4-H Talent Explosion. For younger attendees, there will be a Nickel Scramble sponsored by Blue Ribbon Feeds with plenty of silver for all.
The silent and live auctions will feature items from production agriculture supplies to restaurant and salon packages. Special this year is a pair of tickets to any Vikings game at the Metrodome. For the collector or hobby farmer, there is a field-ready John Deere 14T baler and other assorted equipment. For moms, there will be hanging flower baskets from Circle H Greenhouse just in time for Mother’s Day.
New this year, a purebred club calf will be presented to a lucky 4-H Dairy project member.
The purpose of the May Fair Event & Sale is to raise funds for the Renovations of the Generations Capital Fund Campaign. Successful completion of this campaign will build four new buildings for the St. Croix County Fair. Progress toward that goal has already been made, with the first dairy barn having been erected for the 2011 Fair and now nearly paid for.
All funds raised will be directed toward the retirement of the dairy barn loan and starting the campaign for the second dairy barn.
