SCC students tackle fashion to raise money for cancer research

St. Croix Central High School’s Sewing I and II students are showcasing their work to raise money for the Children’s Cancer Research Center.

The second annual Central Fashion Show is Saturday, May 5, at 1 p.m. in the St. Croix Central High School gymnasium.

Eighteen students will showcase their handmade designs and will also model outfits from Maurice’s in Hudson.

Students will be showcasing everything from homemade pajama pants and fancy dresses to purses and quilts they’ve made in class.

Family and Consumer Science teacher Crystal Bell said the fashion show is about more than just showcasing the students’ work.

“They’re learning about what it means to reach out to the community,” she said about the cancer research fundraiser.

In addition to helping the community, Bell said students are learning about deadlines and patience.

“They’re learning about deadlines and how important it is to meet deadlines,” she said. “Patience is important because we make mistakes and we have to fix our mistakes and sometimes things just don’t work out as you thought, so try again.”

Admission to the show is a free-will donation. Last year the fashion show raised $215 in 20 minutes and they’re hoping this year’s event is successful as well.

Bell said the community should attend the fashion show to “support the students and to support a good cause.”
