Immaculate Conception Church in New Richmond is encouraging barbeque enthusiasts to put their recipes to the test during its upcoming “Battle of the Barbeque” competition.

As part of the church’s annual Mayfest celebration, Sunday, May 20, barbeque participants will purchase and prepare barbequed ribs between 10 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. The ribs can be prepared any way - baked, broiled, grilled, smoked, with or without sauce. Homemade or purchased sauce is acceptable, though homemade is preferred.

Competitors will be provided a station at the Mayfest event. Ribs will be served to judges at the event. The recipe for the ribs may remain secret.

The grand champion winner will receive a $300 cash prize as well as bragging rights. Other prizes are $75 for first; $50 for second; and $25 for third and fourth.

Participants do not need to be members of Immaculate Conception Church.

Mayfest is a social gathering sponsored by Immaculate Conception Church of New Richmond. Other activities include a roast pork sandwich dinner, live auction, rummage sale and children’s activities (including Masterpieces and Messes.)
