More than 250 people participated in the first annual Nelson Fun Run/Walk on Thursday, May 16.

The event raised more than $2,700, which will be allocated to the Nelson Education Fund and A.L.I.V.E. organization for aid to families in the community.

On March 17 Glen and Julie Nelson were struck by an oncoming vehicle while riding their motorcycle. Julie did not survive the accident. Glen is at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minn. and has a long recovery ahead of him. They are the parents of St. Croix Central students Trevor and Collin Nelson.

The event was organized by the SCC Wellness Committee. The cost to attend the event was $5 or a free-will donation.

Organizers of the event were very appreciative of the support from the community.

“Whether you advocated, participated or volunteered at the event, your help was truly appreciated,” said event organizer and St. Croix Central Elementary School physical education teacher Brenda Simone. “We hope to continue this tradition in bringing staff, students and community together to help others in the years to come.”
