The containment curtains are up and the New Richmond downtown water tower is being sand blasted in preparation for a new paint job.
The tower, located next to the fire hall, is in the middle of a complete rehabilitation project.
Crew members with Jetco Limited have been busy at work on the top of the tower for the past several weeks.
The curtain installed around the tower allows the sandblasting and painting to occur without disturbing nearby homes and businesses.
According to crew members, the entire project should take about two months to complete. Jetco will be paid $339,620 to clean the water tower inside and out, as well as repaint the structure (also inside and out).
The rehabilitation of the present tower will extend the life of the structure. Funds for the project will come from reserve funds within the New Richmond Utilities Department.
