LETTER: Recall election will send message
On June 5 the voters of Wisconsin will get a chance to affirm or reject our current governor.
To the Editor:
On June 5 the voters of Wisconsin will get a chance to affirm or reject our current governor.
This recall event has been the most divisive Wisconsin political event I have seen in my 60+ years as a Wisconsin citizen. The issues are well known and most voters have already made up their minds as to whom they favor. I will not attempt to review the issues’ merits.
I will ask my fellow citizens to consider what kind of state Wisconsin is and how Gov. Walker’s agenda will change things. Was a state with first class schools, supportive social programs, strict environmental protection policies, protection of workers’ rights (just to name a few of the issues) something we want to accept or reject? What will Wisconsin look like after a few years of Walker’s agenda?
Nikki Haley, governor of South Carolina, will be in Wisconsin to support Scott Walker’s political agenda. Do we want Wisconsin to look like South Carolina, a state last in public education and low worker wages? Should Wisconsin promote its business environment and overlook the support of needy people? Do you really believe that trickle-down economics works? Are you willing to bet your future and maybe your children’s on this theory?
I like to think the people of Wisconsin believe in fairness and compassion for their fellow citizens. In the end, Wisconsin’s recall election is a referendum on how much value voters put on themselves and the quality of life in Wisconsin. The choice is up to us. What do you want the future to be?
BTW, I saved $30 on my property taxes.
