Organizers prep for Pea Soup Days in Somerset

There should be plenty of soup and lots of fun at this year’s Pea Soup Days June 7-10 in Somerset.

The celebration kicks off Thursday night at 6 p.m. with the OSI/Training Room 5K run.

Friday’s events include a Somerset Lions Club nine-hole golf event at Bristol Ridge Golf Course. Tee off is at 5 p.m.

Carnival rides provided by Earl’s Rides Inc. run from 5-10 p.m. in the village park on Spring Street. Food booths and a softball tournament in the park also start at 5 p.m. The Devon Worley Band will provide musical entertainment from 8 p.m. to midnight and fireworks shoot off at dusk.

Saturday’s events start with a pancake breakfast from 7:30-10:30 a.m. at the Somerset Fire/Rescue Fire Hall. Softball tournaments continue on Saturday starting at 8 a.m. The Pea Soup Parade begins at 11 a.m. and carnival rides will start up again at noon. A craft sale runs from noon to 5 p.m. and the Somerset Library will have minute-to-win-it games outside from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Taste buds will get a workout during the pea soup tasting contest from 1-3 p.m. in the village park. Escape the heat with free open skating at the Montpetit Ice Arena from 2-4 p.m. Residents will showcase their skills in the talent show under the big tent from 5-7 p.m. and karaoke runs from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Sunday’s festivities start with a pancake breakfast from 7:30-10:30 a.m. at the Somerset Fire/Rescue Fire Hall. The final softball tournament games start up at 9 a.m. Sunday. Kids can show off their creativity for the kiddy pet costume and bike decorating parade starting at 11:30 a.m. Following the parade there will be kid’s games and prizes as well as performances from Pumpkin the Clown. Carnival discount day is Sunday starting at noon. The kiddie tractor pull under the big tent at 1 p.m. concludes the Pea Soup Days celebration.

The city-wide garage sale runs all weekend.
