New Richmond firefighters responded to reports of a structure fire in Star Prairie Township on Wednesday, June 7.

Reports of the fire came in at about 9 p.m. and when firefighters arrived on scene a farm house at 2334 County Road M was fully engulfed. The fire had been set by the owner, according to Fire Chief Jim VanderWyst.

According to VanderWyst, the two-story farmhouse had been abandoned years ago and as a way of demolishing the building, the owner set it on fire.

“We responded and checked it out and then referred it to the DNR,” he said.

Apparently the owner failed to get any permits required by the state to set a home on fire.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
