A planned burn of an old house went slightly awry Tuesday morning in the St. Croix County town of Eau Galle when an ember from the permitted fire landed on the roof of a neighbor's old barn.

Firefighters from United Fire's Baldwin station arrived within about five minutes of the call for help and hit the small fire with an extinguisher from inside the barn, then followed up with a big stream from a line off a pumper. Damage appeared to be limited to a small hole in the roof.

Fire crews then poured some water on the burning razed building across CTH N to prevent a reoccurrence.

The fire was located east of Hwy. 63, about a mile south of I-94. The incident was reported at about 7:35 a.m.
