LETTER: Military preparedness/Obama style

To the Editor:

Thomas P. Kilgannon, the president of Freedom Alliance, a venerable organization of note, is seeking widespread support of the citizenry to oppose President Barak Hussein Obama’s action to reduce our nation’s military capacity to safeguard its people and vested interest worldwide.

Mr. Obama initiated this deep concern upon signing the disastrous START III TREATY with Russia, agreeing to cut our nuclear arsenal in half from roughly 3,000 to 1,500 weapons. This action has, in effect, guaranteed Russia’s nuclear superiority. Now President Obama has ordered the Defense Department to explore the feasibility of reducing our nuclear arsenal to as few as 300 warheads. This number will represent the fewest warheads we have had since 1950. If such becomes a reality it would represent nothing less than “unilateral nuclear disarmament” and confirm Mr. Obama’s intention to fulfill his globalized fantasy of a world without nuclear weapons.

President Obama has called for nearly $500 billion in new additional cuts in his 2013 budget proposal which will drastically affect the Air Force, Navy, Army, Marines, Missile Defense and NASA. According to research accomplished by the Freedom Alliance organization, the Air Force will be called upon to eliminate 280 air craft and 10,000 airmen. The Navy will cancel its long-standing plan for a 300 ship fleet and curtail significantly its ship building capabilities. The Army’s troop strength will be reduced by 80,000 soldiers. The Marines will eliminate six battalions, four tactical air squadrons and up to 50,000 marines. Missile Defense will cancel its missile defense shield in eastern Europe. The implementation of this program will be shelved permanently. NASA is, for all practical purposes, in a state of limbo and no longer exists as the leader in space exploration and technology. Under Obama’s watch, NASA is no longer the major player in space technology. Other nations have adopted this role.

Unbelievably, Mr. Obama is also calling for cancelation of additional military base closures and weapon/defense research systems vital to the nation’s security.

The president’s military posture is reminiscent of former President Jimmy Carter’s “Peace at any Cost” mandate.

The Freedom Alliance organization feels strongly that our president is exhibiting a major lack of understanding and leadership vital to our nation’s military preparedness and needs, which could place the nation at great peril.
