LETTER: City shouldn’t pay for feasibility report

To the Editor:
After reading page 9C of the June 28 New Richmond News, I became interested in the meeting notes. In particular, the spending of $7,750 from the general fund for a feasibility report to build another hotel in New Richmond.
I question this because I have been in the hospitality industry for more than 20 years and typically the owner of such hotel would pay all costs associated with the feasibility report. I understand New Richmond can use a new business to create jobs and to offset taxes on the community.
However, to spend close to $8,000 on something that may or may not happen seems to be a waste of taxpayer dollars. I suggest not paying for this report and use the money to promote this wonderful town. I commend you for the effort of bringing in employers. Keep striving to make New Richmond a better place, but let’s not hand out tax dollars to someone who can afford a multi-million dollar hotel.
