Ramblers bring Sousa to Hillside

The Heritage Hillside Series welcomes the St. Croix Ramblers to the bandstand Wednesday, July 25, for the third of its summer concerts.

Join the talented musicians from the region in an evening of music Sousa style. Led by Kristin (Skoglund) Tjornehoj, the St. Croix Ramblers will entertain people of all ages with marches, ragtime, polkas and popular musical hits from yesterday and today.

Guest musicians include the Cedar Valley Brass Quintet featured in Sounds of Sinatra. Tjornehoj has been leading musicians from the St. Croix Valley in a variety of shows for more than 25 years. Originally from New Richmond, she directs bands and orchestras and is a professor at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Music Department. Musical selections for this event will include “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” featuring tuba soloist Gary Bird; “Catch Me if You Can” with saxophone soloist Aaron Duerst; and selections from “Star Wars” by John Williams.

The sponsor for the evening is First National Community Bank and entertainment begins at 6:30 p.m., ending at about 8 p.m.

Farmer’s Market vendors have been invited, Messes and Masterpieces will return an art project for the kids, Zaney Janey has been invited to provide henna and Table 65 plans to bring Gelato and Sorbetto to sell.

Bring a picnic blanket or lawn chairs and a picnic supper. Pop and popcorn are available for sale and one of the historic buildings will be open for visitors to wander through.

It’s a rain or shine event. In case of inclement weather, the concert will move inside the pavilion, where seating is available but limited. For more information, call 715-246-3276.
