Much to the surprise of Friends of the St. Croix County Fairplex, Megan Schulte donated her steer to the Renovations for Generations Meat Animal Raffle.
According to a representative of Friends of the Fairplex, “this has been a year of nice surprises led by the 75th anniversary gift from St. Croix Electric Cooperative and capped by Megan’s donation.”
Schulte, a member of True Blue 4-H Club, has been showing at the St. Croix County Fair since first grade. When asked why she decided to donate her steer, Schulte said that attending the Fair and showing her animals is the highlight of her summer and that donating her steer is her way of giving back.
The Friends of the St. Croix County Fairplex are pursuing many funding avenues including the Renovations for Generations Raffle, the Fall Commodity Drive, the May Fair Event & Sale as well as individual and business donations.
Collectively, the generosity of the county community has paid for dairy barn #1, well started fund raising for dairy barn #2 and set the stage for the new horse barn. This year’s stretch goal is raising $75,000 by January 2013 which will allow construction of dairy barn #2 in time for the 2013 Fair.
According to Terry Mitchell, local dairy farmer and a longtime supporter of 4-H and the fair, “The generous participation, from businesses and private citizens, has really helped to make the capital improvement campaign for the St. Croix County Fairgrounds get off to a fantastic start. With their continued support, our fairgrounds will serve the county for generations to come.”
