Luck motorist dies in Polk County accident

A Luck man died in a two-vehicle accident in the early morning hours Friday, Aug. 3.
On Aug. 3 at 12:36 a.m. the Polk County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a two-vehicle crash on County Road N at the intersection with County Road Z in Laketown Township.
According to the report, Laura M. Fairchild, 46, of rural St. Croix Falls was traveling westbound on County Road N, driving a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer SUV, when she collided with a 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by Jonathan M Hawkins, 33, of rural Luck.
The Hawkins vehicle apparently entered onto County Road N from a stop sign at the intersection with County Road Z into the path of the Fairchild vehicle. After the impact, both vehicles came to rest in a field southwest of the intersection.
Hawkins was extricated from his vehicle and found to have no signs of life. Hawkins was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Polk County Medical Examiners Office.
Fairchild was extricated from her vehicle by Cushing Fire Department after which she was transported to St. Croix Regional Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash which remains under investigation by the Polk County Sheriff and Medical Examiners Offices.
