LETTER: Concealed Carry permits should be public

I wouldn’t dream of taking away a Concealed Carry permit holder’s gun, but in light of several recent mass shootings, I would like to speak out for the rights of those of us who choose not to carry weapons.

To the Editor:

I wouldn’t dream of taking away a Concealed Carry permit holder’s gun, but in light of several recent mass shootings, I would like to speak out for the rights of those of us who choose not to carry weapons. I would like to see an amendment to the Wisconsin Concealed Carry law which allows us non-gun toters to go online and see who holds a Concealed Carry permit. I think that we have the right to know whom to avoid and which persons are not good candidates for a political or religious discussion. The ‘background check’ is bogus; it only checks arrest records. I know many people who have never been arrested yet they are way too crazy to be carrying loaded weapons. Neither Rep. Sheila Harsdorf nor Rep. John Murtha responded to my e-mail when I suggested this amendment to them. Those of us who do not want to shoot others and who do not want to be shot have no representation in this part of Wisconsin. I am writing this to try and start a letter writing campaign for a law which I believe is completely reasonable and does not violate the Second Amendment.
