Plans are being hammered into place as Star Prairie prepares for its 43rd annual Ox Cart Days this weekend, Aug. 16-19.
Event organizers say this will be the best event ever with games, bands, fast pitch softball, a bean-bag toss tournament, bingo, car show, kids’ activities and more.
The event is put on by the Star Prairie Lions Club and attracts hundreds to the area, said Chris Boardman, chairwoman of the event.
The weekend kicks off Thursday with the NREMS and K-9 walk/run.
New for 2012 is Saturday’s dunk tank, manned by local bartenders, law enforcements officers, medical personnel and teachers.
Friday, Aug. 17, features a street dance with music by Ten Mile Creek.
Saturday, Aug. 18, is “kid’s day” at the ballpark, featuring Skippy the Clown and the Blue Lion Fun Factory – slide, bounce house, fish pond, etc. The kids’ rubber duck race is also slated for Saturday at River Island Park.
Saturday also features the second annual craft fair, where more than 20 vendors have signed up to participate, Boardman said.
Sunday wraps up the weekend with the grand parade and the crowning of the queen.
Boardman said it wouldn’t be possible for the Lions Club to put the event on each year without the help of the volunteers and community members.
