New salon for men set to open in Roberts

Even if they won't necessarily admit it, Danielle Peterson said men enjoy being pampered a little sometimes. Peterson is opening a new men's hair salon in Roberts that will allow men to watch television while they get their hair cut.

Danielle Peterson said people have been stopping by her store to see when it will open.

“There seems to be a lot of interest so far, so we’re excited to get started,” Peterson said.

Peterson’s new hair salon, Corner Clippers in Roberts, caters to men. There are televisions in every station, a large TV in the lobby so waiting customers can keep up with their favorite sports, and a line of men’s hair products for sale. Peterson said she felt there were a lot of women’s salons in the area, but not as many options for men.

Peterson will not be offering a full service shop. She will not do perms, or female coloring or highlights. She said she will do men’s color and men’s waxing, and although she will do waxing for women, she wants to keep her shop a boys’ club.

“They love going to a place where it’s kind of their own,” Peterson said. “They go with their sons if they want. It’s more of an experience for them to go to a men’s shop versus someone that caters to both.”

Peterson said she hopes to create an atmosphere where men feel comfortable relaxing and having their hair cut. She said she will do this through amenities like having a television in every station and allowing the men to simply watch TV and relax while their hair is cut.

Peterson said she is opening the shop with herself and one other full-time stylist. She is looking for another full- or part-time stylist, and said she would adjust the number of employees depending on demand. She said she has had a good reaction from the community so far with people stopping by to ask when the shop will open and even asking her neighboring businesses when Corner Clippers will be open.

Peterson, who lives in Hammond with her husband Ryan, and children Chance, Payton, Javin and Chloe, said she looks forward to owning her business.

“I’m looking forward to the shorter commute, being closer to home, and just seeing how it goes,” Peterson said. “I think we’ll do fairly well here.”

Corner Clippers will open for business on Aug. 25. Corner Clippers is located in Miller’s Corner in Roberts.
