The School District of New Richmond has hired 15 teachers this school year. Following is a list of new hires and some of their biographical information.
Shelley Albright
Age: I’m older than I look.
Family: Husband of 14 years, Jim; 9-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son.
Position in the district: School psychologist at Hillside Elementary and the high school.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in child psychology from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities; master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
Previous work experience: Prescott School District, two years; South Washington County School District, six years; St. Croix Central School District, three years.
Favorite hobbies/pastimes: Camping, scrapbooking and spending time with my family.
London Casey
Age: 24
Family: Single/not married
Position in the district: Paperjack Elementary/high school art teacher.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in art education from the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
Previous work experience: First-year teacher.
Favorite hobbies/pastimes: Crafting, baking, piano and tennis.
Jen Christensen
Age: 29
Family: Single — I grew up in Hudson, where my family still resides.
Position in district: First grade teacher at Starr Elementary.
Education: I received my elementary education degree with an early childhood minor from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in 2008.
Previous work experience: I taught 4-year-old kindergarten at the New Richmond Area Centre for two years. I was an assistant teacher in the autism program in Hudson for two years prior to that.
Favorite hobbies/pastimes: I enjoy anything outdoors: running, biking, camping, hiking, fishing and snowmobiling (to name a few). I also enjoy spending time with my 3-year-old nephew and my family.
Beth Coleman
Age: 41
Family: Husband, Tom; children: Audrey, 9, and Tyler, 6.
Position in the district: New Richmond High School Family and Consumer Science teacher.
Education: Bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire; master’s degree from the University of Minnesota.
Previous work experience: Wayzata (Minn.) High School, two years; Hopkins (Minn.) High School, four years.
Favorite hobbies/pastimes: Running, tennis and Pilates.
Vanessa Crotteau

Education: Bachelor’s degree in secondary English education; athletic coaching minor.

Maggie Demulling

Education: Graduated December 2011 from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a degree in elementary education and a minor in language arts.
Previous work experience: Eau Claire YMCA school age child care program; first grade long-term substitute at Lakeshore Elementary in Eau Claire.
Favorite hobbies/pastimes: Being outdoors (camping, biking, hiking, playing sports), showing horses, reading and spending time with family and friends.
Garret Fletch
Age: 25
Family: Molly Fletch, wife.
Position in the district: Special services at Paperjack Elementary.
Education: The University of Wisconsin-Stout, cross categorical special education.
Previous work experience: First year
Favorite hobbies/pastimes: Spending time outdoors, playing sports activities (golf, downhill skiing).
Ayla Helland
Age: 25
Family: Married to Travis Helland
Position in the district: Third grade teacher.
Education: I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with a degree in elementary education (1-8) with a minor in science.
Previous work experience: I taught eighth grade science for two years at Somerset.
Favorite hobbies/pastimes: I enjoy being outdoors. I love to run, play volleyball, softball, camp, bake and spend time with my family.
Travis Helland
Age: 26
Family: Ayla Helland
Position in the district: Sixth grade science.
Education: Norda Project Teaching — broadfield science, biology/life science and chemistry; bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh — biology major, chemistry minor.
Previous work experience: Environmental chemist for Clean Harbor.
Favorite hobbies/pastimes: Love to get involved with the community – coaching baseball, basketball, football. Love to be outdoors, bow hunt, fish and spend time with the family.
Katherine Hoye-Nirmaier
Age: 50
Family: Married to Joseph Nirmaier, live in Somerset on a horse ranch. We have five children, four horses, three dogs, two cats and one bearded dragon.
Position in the district: Special services teacher at New Richmond High School.
Education: Bachelor’s degree from Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff, Ariz.
Previous work experience: Worked last year as a special services tutor at NRHS; substitute teacher in Hudson and Somerset; teacher for 11 years in St. Paul at Linwood A+ Arts magnet school.
Favorite hobbies/pastimes: Reading, writing, drawing, gardening, bicycling, trail riding, hiking, writing songs, playing guitar and singing.
Alicia Kaltenberg
Age: 23
Family: The youngest of three kids. Not married, no children.
Position in the district: Special services teacher at Hillside Elementary.
Education: I received my degree in special education and elementary education at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Previous work experience: None — his is my first year teaching.
Favorite hobbies/pastimes: Dancing, reading, swimming, being outside and being with family and friends.
Jessica Kocon
Age: 29
Family: Husband, Todd; Dogs: Trooper and Oakley.
Position in the district: Special services at Hillside Elementary.
Education: Cardinal Stritch University of Milwaukee, graduated in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and certification in special education.
Previous work experience: Hudson District -– special education; New Heights School (Minn.) – general education.
Favorite hobbies/pastimes: Traveling, walking my dogs, working out and reading.

Previous work experience: Twin Cities Academy (St. Paul, Minn.), three years; Torta Consulting Service (Missoula, Mont.), four years; Sylvan Lerning Center, Hudson; Mutual Savings Bank, one year; Shopko, five years.
Favorite hobbies/pastimes: Playing and coaching volleyball, coaching my daughter’s softball team, attending my son’s baseball games and cross country meets, hiking/cross country skiing -– especially at Willow River State Park, gardening, traveling and spending time with family.
Tyler Stephenson
Age: 24
Family: Wife, dog, two cats and two painted turtles.
Position in the district: Paperjack Elementary School music teacher.

Previous work experience: Marching drumline instructor, marching band visual advisor.
