Who are we to say that we’re alone?

Scott Alan Roberts hates conspiracy theories, so it’s ironic that he wrote two books that focus on them.
The New Richmond, Wis. resident released “The Rise and Fall of the Nephilim” earlier this year and has just finished writing his second book, “The Secret History of the Reptilians,” which will be released in February 2013.
Roberts, who attended several years of seminary school and worked toward his Master’s in Divinity, wrote the books to shed light on the contradictions he’s discovered between what was written and what he was taught.
“I ask a ton of questions. This all scares me a little bit. There are still times I think that I’m going to Hell now because I’ve done this and because I think this way,” he said. “I haven’t thrown out the baby with the bath water when it comes to my faith, but I have big questions because things don’t seem like what I was taught.”
Roberts’ first book, “The Rise and Fall of the Nephilim,” mostly revolves around the story of Noah and the Ark.
“In Sunday school you would’ve learned that God brought the great flood on mankind because of their wickedness and corruption and that Noah was the only righteous man left in his family, so he was chosen,” Roberts said. “When I started digging into the Hebrew passage though, I found that the words for ‘righteous’ — that’s how it was transcribed into English… the Hebrew version says ‘pure-blooded.’ It says Noah was a pure-blooded man, pure in all his generations. That’s the establishing factor. “When you start reading it in Hebrew you find out that this is the reason for the flood. There is a genetically altered human bloodline in the Old Testament and God is destroying the corrupted race of man by this bloodline and Noah was the only pure-blooded family left.”
Roberts said the Nephilim can be traced all the way back to the story of Adam and Eve, and the bloodline began with the serpent in the Garden of Eden.
His newest book, “The Secret History of the Reptilians,” Roberts said he tries to decipher ancient mythology from current mythology.
“The reptilian factor is one of these things where it’s purported that the ancient gods written about were actually reptilian races that came from other worlds and subjugated mankind and they are living in the background,” he said.
Roberts cites several gods throughout history — the serpent, Nachash, in the Garden of Eden; Atum, the Egyptian snake-man; and Quetzalcotl, the feathered serpent god of the Mayans to the double-helix snake symbol of Enki/Ea in ancient Sumerian literature – with reptilian representation.
“It looks to me like current mythology with the reptilians is not different than ancient mythology, we’ve just updated it,” he said.
Both of Roberts’ books offer alternative explanation as to where man came from, he said. It’s not unlike the ancient alien theory, he said.
“There’s a theory of ancient alien contact. And it’s a little deeper than a bunch of weirdoes living in mom’s basement saying ‘oh I can’t wait for the Pleiadians to come and take us away,’” he said. “The ancient alien theory is based on archeology, anthropology, cosmology, and all the other ologies in between and it’s one that says there’s a possibility that perhaps ancient man was visited by non-human entities.”
Roberts said some people believe in ancient aliens simply because of phenomena like the Egyptian pyramids and Stonehenge.
“There are people who think man didn’t have the ability to build the pyramids, so it must have been aliens. I don’t believe that and a lot of the proponents of this theory do not believe that kind of thing,” he said. “However, there are certain polymer-based adhesives that were used on the pyramids –- this is stuff that wasn’t invented until the mid-20th Century and yet it’s been used on the pyramids. We either rediscovered something or somebody had more advanced technology… and that’s where some of this thinking began.”
Roberts said that even scientists have changed their way of thinking in terms of the probability of other life-sustaining planets in the universe.
“They’ll now admit that they believe the mathematical probability of us being alone in the universe is zero. They say our galaxy has billions of stars that are similar to our sun, which could hold billions of planets similar to this planet… and that’s just our galaxy,” he said. “There are billions of galaxies like our galaxy out there. The quantum mathematics of it all states that there are trillions upon trillions of probable life-sustaining planets just like ours in the universe.”
Roberts said the question then shifts from whether there are other life forms out there to whether they came here.
“Did they? And if they did, what did they bring here? And is it wacky to think that ancient alien contact may have had something to do with the buildings of our mythologies or with possibly the DNA of human beings?” he asked.
To further explore the possibility of the ancient alien theory, Roberts, through Intrepid Magazine, will be hosting the Paradigm Symposium Oct. 18-21 in Minneapolis.
Roberts said the symposium will be the first of its kind.
“It’s going to be a bunch of the people who are the proponents of this theory that are the icons in this field,” he said.
Those icons range from Erich von Daniken and George Noory to Philip Coppens and Giorgio A. Tsoukalos.
In all, more than 15 experts will play a part in the symposium. That’s in addition to Roberts and Micah Hanks, of The Gralien Report.
“Micah is the Spock to my Kirk,” Roberts joked. “That’s how I refer to him.”
Linda Moulton Howe will present the opening keynote address.
“She’s been in the ufology and alien scientific field for 30 years,” Roberts said. “We’re excited to have her for the opening.”
“Erich von Daniken is our prime speaker,” Roberts said. “He was one of the first in modern pop culture that brought the ancient astronaut theory in front of us … he is the godfather of the ancient alien theory. He also makes appearances in every episode of Ancient Aliens (on the History Channel).”
George Noory, the host of Coast to Coast, a radio show that deals with UFO’s, strange occurrences, life after death, and other unexplained (and often inexplicable) phenomena, will also be a featured speaker.
Philip Coppens, Giorgio A. Tsoukalos and Bill Birnes are regular commentators on the History Channel’s Ancient Aliens series.
Ian Punnett is a local man who hosts a morning talk show on 107.1 FM. He did the Coast to Coast weekend show, Roberts said. He’ll be moderating the symposium’s discussion panel.
The other speakers are authors who write books in the field.
“It’s already being hailed as the event of a lifetime,” Roberts said of the symposium. “The grouping of these people together is unheard of. It’s going to be pretty amazing.”
