LETTER: Local resident upset over questioning

To the Editor:
My name is Vince. I’m a native Wisconsinite, a resident of this city, New Richmond.
I do not drink, do drugs, hunt, nor commit crimes. I also do charitable works daily and believe strongly in God. I am also a nature lover, and that is where my story begins.
I go to the Paperjack Greenway daily, because there I can seek peace, commune with nature and God, and have good thoughts.
Well, that rudely changed on Tuesday, Aug. 28, when two gun-toting officers confronted me, giving me the fifth degree, demanding to know not only my history but my business. Why? Because some paranoid citizen who lived nowhere in sight complained that I was lingering too long in a public area.
These are the same officers who drive around aimlessly every day not enforcing any laws. When I was almost struck by a drunken driver in town, they did nothing. Just upholding the law? I think not.
I wonder what my ancestor George Washington (you know the one) would think about that? City beautiful? You decide.
Vince Williamson
New Richmond
