LETTER: ‘Fiddler’ musical production very well done
My wife and I saw “Fiddler on the Roof” Sunday afternoon at the New Richmond High School.
To the Editor:
My wife and I saw “Fiddler on the Roof” Sunday afternoon at the New Richmond High School. It was a wonderful performance by everyone involved in this Willow River Players production, from children who probably needed to get special permission to stay out late for rehearsals to old geezers playing characters like the milkman, the butcher and the rabbi.
Three years ago we saw Chaim Topol in his farewell tour singing the role of Tevye the milkman at the Opheum Theatre in Minneapolis. When he introduced the play that evening he told the audience that he had sung the role over 2,500 times and still found it inspiring.
My wife and I agreed that Topol made a wonderful Tevye, and we agreed today also that if George Gfall, who sang the role of the poor milkman this afternoon in New Richmond, had the opportunity to perform it 2,500 times he might do as well as Topol.
There are three performances this weekend. If you can get a ticket, go.
