LETTER: Thompson gained financially from past

To the Editor:

Tammy Baldwin is not ashamed of paying her taxes.  Rep. Baldwin understands that tax is not a four letter word.  She would have us return to an attitude where public works proudly displayed a plaque which would proclaim “Paid for by Your Taxes.”

Baldwin voluntarily released 10 years of her tax records several months ago because she is proud of paying her full share toward her civic duty.

Baldwin’s opponent, Tommy Thompson, is proud of signing the “no tax” pledge to Grover Norquist. By doing so he has sworn allegiance to one man over the interest of Wisconsin and the United States.

Thompson has shown a similar loyalty to wealthy companies. The revolving door from Cabinet Secretary of HHS to Washington influence peddler has netted him millions.

Thompson worked for the very companies that he was regulating as soon as he left the Bush Administration earning stock options and cash. He has shown that he believes in raising as much money for himself as possible but will do whatever it takes to avoid paying his fair share of taxes.

At least that is what we must assume.  In May Thompson was asked to release his taxes.  Our former Governor was emphatic.  “What part of ‘no’ don’t you understand” he asked reporters.

There is a stark contrast here. Tammy Baldwin is a leader who has never sold out and has much to give. Tommy Thompson is an ideologue politician who has too much to pay for with access and influence for Wisconsin to make him our U.S. senator.
