The increasingly popular program, “Let’s Get Physical! Move More, Power Up to 60!” is ready to kick off its second year. Designed for students ages kindergarten through sixth grade, Let’s Get Physical! promotes physical activity and games as a means to further social and communication skills in children.

The classes encourage students to get active (at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day), eat healthy, explore the great outdoors and make a difference. It’s a chance to have fun while being active in a non-competitive environment. Students will receive game items to take home for use, a nutritious snack during class, and healthy tips and resources for families. Parents are encouraged to attend with their kids and help reinforce key messages at home.

New Richmond School District and Community Education, in collaboration with Healthier Together – St. Croix County and local sponsors are offering this program throughout the year in response to growing concerns about the increasing rates of overweight and obesity among school children.

Organizers hope participants will leave with an understanding of what it means, and what it takes, to be healthy individuals.

Class instructor Jill Lindell, a home visitor with New Richmond Head Start program, remarks that “the class has been a big hit!” A New Richmond parent added, “My child asks me how many steps I took today. It makes me more accountable!”

Register today. The program consists of four consecutive Tuesday evenings beginning Oct. 2 through Oct. 23. The classes run 6-7:30 p.m. at the Community Commons, 421 S. Green Ave.

There is no cost to attend. The program is funded in part by the St. Croix Valley Foundation and a Transform Wisconsin Impact Grant. Registration information can be found on the district’s website under Community Education at www.newrichmond.k12.wi.us or check student Friday folders for a registration form.
