Nemac attends municpal judge event

Hon. Brad Nemac, municipal judge of the Village of Somerset, attended the municipal judge traffic seminar conducted by the Wisconsin Supreme Court, Office of Judicial Education on Sept. 13-14 at The Hyatt on Main in Green Bay.

Thursday’s session began with an open forum presented by staff from the Wisconsin department of Transportation m(DOT). The session answered many questions most frequently asked of the DOT. The Hon. William Weigel of the City of Verona followed with a session on “judicial ethics.”

The afternoon session began with a lengthy presentation by Dane County Court Commissioner Todd Meurer, and the Hon. John Neuenschwander, District II reserve judge. Meurer and Neuenschwander provided the judges with an update on newly passed state laws and recently decided case law pertaining to municipal courts. Thursday’s session ended with an issues and answers panel presentation. Serving as faculty for the panel were Hon. Daniel Floeter, District V reserve judge, Hon. Gary Wickert, Village of Ashwaubenon, and Hon. Scott Letteney, Town of Geneva. This session gave the judges the opportunity to ask experienced judges a multitude of questions on court operations.

Hon. Alice Rudebusch began Friday’s session with a review and update of the law pertaining to commercial driver’s licenses. The remainder of the Friday was spent with the judges participating in a mock trial exercise involving the trial of a defendant for operating while intoxicated.

The Traffic Seminar is one of several seminars put on by the Office of Judicial Education. Attendance at one of these seminars satisfies the Wisconsin Supreme Court requirement that all municipal judges earn four credits of continuing education each May- to April 30.
