New Richmond, Somerset play in volleyball regionals Thursday

The New Richmond and Somerset volleyball teams will be playing in the second round of WIAA Division 2 regional tournament action Thursday night.
Both teams will be playing on the road Thursday. Somerset, the fourth seed in the region, will be playing at top-seeded Altoona at 7 p.m.
New Richmond, the sixth seed, will be playing at second seed Osceola at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
New Richmond and Somerset advanced to Thursday’s matches by winning opening round clashes against Middle Border Conference opponents on Tuesday night.
New Richmond pulled off one of the biggest Division 2 upsets in the state on Tuesday. The Tigers went to Baldwin-Woodville and knocked off the Blackhawks in a five-game thrill ride. New Richmond won the match 25-14, 22-25, 19-25, 25-17 and 15-6. New Richmond is the sixth seed in the region while B-W was the third seed. The teams had split their matches during the regular season.
Somerset’s volleyball team played with a high level of efficiency in dispatching Ellsworth on Tuesday, 25-18, 25-15, 25-13. Somerset is the fourth seed and Ellsworth was the fifth seed in the region.
Osceola won the other match in the regional bracket on Tuesday. The second-seeded Chieftains put away seventh seed St. Croix Central by scores of 25-2, 25-1 and 25-20.
