Somerset, St. Croix Central football draw second round playoff home games

The Somerset and St. Croix Central football teams will both be playing at home this weekend in the second round of the WIAA state playoffs.

Somerset defeated Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau on Friday 27-0 to advance. The Spartans will be playing at home at 7 p.m. this Friday, with Bloomer as their opponent. This will be the seventh time in four years that Somerset and Bloomer have faced each other.

The St. Croix Central football team pulled off one of the bigger upsets in the state in the opening round of the playoffs. The Panthers traveled four hours to Eagle River to upset previously-unbeaten Northland Pines 34-20. Central will play at home at 2 p.m. this Saturday, hosting Barron. This should be a highly entertaining game between teams that can score points in a hurry.

Below is a list of all of the second round WIAA playoff games in the state this weekend. A number of area teams are still involved in the playoffs, like Hudson in Division 1, Osceola and Rice Lake in Division 3, Durand, Prescott, Unity and Elk Mound in Division 5, Boyceville in Division 6 and Glenwood City and Clayton in Division 7.
