LETTER: Baldwin would represent state well

To the Editor:

I met Tammy Baldwin at a meet and greet July 5 in Nekoosa.

Having been raised by her grandparents, she learned early how important Medicare and S.S.I. and Medicaid are for retirees and people in need. She will fight to protect these programs.

Her opponent, Tommy Thompson has name recognition but this is a different era. It has been reported that he would do away with Medicaid and Medicare and replace it with a voucher as Paul Ryan’s system calls for which will give insurance companies more money. The Nuns on the bus tour have called this plan “immoral” and not based on Ryan’s claim of Catholicism. Some have felt it follows the Ayn Rand theory.

I am confident that Tammy will work on behalf of all of the people, not just those at the top. She also believes in pay based on attendance at the job you are elected to do.

The first presidential debate is over. The rules were set but Romney did not respect them or play by them. How would that demeanor keep our country safe in negotiation with leaders of foreign countries? Why should he be elected president of the United States if he invests his wealth in Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Swiss banks or elsewhere. Why does he refuse to release more tax forms? Why will he not be specific in where he is going to get enough revenue to balance the budget and cut the deficit? He is asking us to ‘trust’ him but who would buy ‘a pig in a poke’ or vote blindfolded.

For the good of our country I beg those of you who attack President Obama because of his race please stop and stop demeaning others because they choose a different lifestyle than you. What kind of America do we want to leave for the future?

Do we want our elected leaders to pledge allegiance to the United States of America or to lobbyist Grover Norquist. Ask Romney, Ryan and Tommy Thompson if they have signed Grover’s pledge.
