LETTER: Writer backs Obama’s re-election

To the Editor:
Barack Obama deserves a second term as U.S. president. He is a man of integrity who cares deeply about his fellow citizens and the future of our country and the world.
As we all know, Obama inherited an economic crisis from the Bush era. He has worked tirelessly to turn this recession around and to prevent it from getting worse, always with an eye to alleviating suffering for those hardest hit.
His programs have included economic stimulus, incentives for job creation, relief for the unemployed, access to quality education, and affordable health care. These and other programs work together to provide both ready relief and long-term strengthening of economic security.
Unfortunately, these past two years, the Tea Party-fueled Republican majority in Congress has refused to work with Obama to tackle our country’s serious problems. Such a shame and a waste.
We need a return to bipartisanship and compromise in order to move our country forward. Obama has a long record of bringing together people of differing opinions to work towards solutions. And he takes his responsibility as a decision-maker seriously, weighing alternatives and possible outcomes.
(For an engaging, highly readable glimpse of Obama’s approach to the decision-heavy role of president, check out “Obama and Me” by journalist Michael Lewis in the October issue of Vanity Fair.)
Let’s elect Obama to a second term to continue the work of strengthening our people and our country in this new century. And let’s elect representatives to the House and Senate — and state and local offices, too — who are willing listen to all their constituents and to work together for the good of all 100% of “We the People.”
