The Hammond Library and Sandy Brecht Photography teamed up to bring a new event to Hammond on Saturday, Oct. 20, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event, a fall festival, included games, cupcake decorating, food and drink and photos by Sandy Brecht Photography.

Michelle Johnson, director of the Hammond Public Library, said the event was a success. Johnson put together a story-walk for the event, which she said was very popular. The story-walk was a maze, through which people followed, and read, a story, page-by-page.

“A page of a book will be on a stick, and you’ll go from one stick to another and read your story,” Johnson said, “and then at the end of the walk, you’ll have a whole story that your family has read.”

Johnson said she had done a story-walk for a previous event and it had gone over really well, so she decided to try it again.

“It was a way of sharing a book with your children and also taking in nature and its beauty,” Johnson said.

Sandy Brecht was also on hand to take fall photos for families.

Much of the proceeds from the event went to support the library.

“I have always wanted to do something for the community in the fall,” Johnson said. “I would love to make this an annual event.”
