Somerset Halloween happenings planned

Children trick-or-treated around Christ Lutheran Church’s lower-level on Sunday, Oct. 21, at the church’s first-ever Harvest Halloween event.

Kids found tricks and treats at card tables set up in the lower-level. There was also soup and cupcake decorating available.

The event was an opportunity for kids to trick-or-treat in a safe environment.

Sherry Gjonnes, part of the committee that put on the Harvest Halloween event, said both children and adults attended the event in costume.

“There were people in costume in church,” said Gjonnes.

The event also included Bingo and face painting.

Christ Lutheran Church’s event was the first of several Halloween events in Somerset this season. Other Halloween events coming up in Somerset include:

• The Haunted Hall on Wednesday, Oct. 31, in the Historic Somerset Town Hall from 4:30 – 7 p.m. Melissa Tuura-Johnson, who runs the event with Rita Lawson said the event includes spooky games, stories and Halloween treats. This year’s theme is carnival games, Tuura-Johnson said. The event will include carnival games and a fortune teller.

Tuura-Johnson said Boy Scout Troop 144 will help decorate the old town hall for the event.

The Haunted Hall event is free. While the event is aimed toward younger children, Tuura-Johnson said the attendees range from infants and toddlers to middle-schoolers, and all are welcome to attend.

• Haunted Hay Rides put on by the Somerset Lions Club on Oct. 27, rain or shine, according to Lion David Bracht. The rides go from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Somerset Village Park and cost $3 per ride or $5 for unlimited rides, and $10 for unlimited rides for a whole family. The Lions recommend the rides for ages 6 and up but say all ages are welcome. There will be concessions available, with warm food and drink items. Bathrooms will also be available. Rides last approximately 20 minutes and contain “scary actors” at various scenes and roaming the trails.
