Christ Lutheran Church in Somerset is starting in early on fundraising for their next mission trip. Rev. Kathy Tulman said this year’s trip will be bigger than ever before.
She said in addition to youth from Christ Lutheran, there will be some kids who aren’t members of the church, but are friends of church members who are coming on the trip.
With so many people, Tulman said she had to rent a second vehicle to transport everyone to Marvell, Ark., this year’s mission trip destination.
While Tulman said the drive to Arkansas and sleeping in church basements will all be part of the mission trip experience, she said spending time with the youth on the trips is her favorite part of the experience.
“Just watching what happens to their faith and their love of other people and the difference that you can make in people’s lives,” Tulman said. “I just think that’s so special.”
Tulman said it can be hard for youth to find time for service while they’re at home, what with busy schedules between sports, jobs and homework. She said a mission trip takes students away from all that.
“We have their undivided attention,” Tulman said. “On this particular trip what we are really promoting is that God calls us to serve others.”
She said she hopes the trip will help the youth experience what it’s like to live their lives serving others, if only for a short while.
The trip to Marvell, Ark. will take place in June of 2013. For more information, call Tulman at 715-781-1848.
