LETTER: New direction needed

Sen. Ron Johnson recently suggested that Wisconsin residents are ignorant and that is why President Obama carried the state. It is my hope that more Wisconsin residents become more educated about the serious issues we face. However, I doubt that will help the side of the fence Sen. Johnson supports.

To the Editor:

Sen. Ron Johnson recently suggested that Wisconsin residents are ignorant and that is why President Obama carried the state. It is my hope that more Wisconsin residents become more educated about the serious issues we face. However, I doubt that will help the side of the fence Sen. Johnson supports.

He presents a narrative on his site that is at best misleading. If a person actually goes to the CBO directly, or uses something easier like the information published by the Pew Charitable trust, we can discuss how to move forward much more honestly.

Perhaps it wasn’t ignorance after all. Could it be that enough people are simply beginning to wake up? For nearly all of my life, Sen. Johnson’s side has been saying that if we cut taxes on people like him they will invest and life will be better for all of us. We have cut taxes, but the revenue gains have not happened. We got debt instead. Where was the investment made?

What happened to all the productivity gains we have achieved? Life for people like Sen. Johnson is indeed much better today. Unfortunately they want the trickle to be as small as possible.

After more than 30 years of trying these failed policies just maybe people are beginning to realize that the policies supported by Sen. Johnson are simply not good for most of us.
