Construction on the new bathroom and concession stand building in the Somerset Village Park should be wrapping up soon, said Bob Gunther of the Somerset Public Works department.
“It’ll be a nice addition onto that area,” Gunther said.
The building contains a concession stand portion as well public bathrooms. Gunther said the concession stand portion of the building will be used as a concession stand in the summer and will be converted into a warming house in the winter for families using the ice skating rink.
Gunther said Somerset residents often bring their children to the park for ice skating in the winter. In the summer, Gunther said the park hosts such festivities as Pea Soup Days and baseball tournaments.
“We hope it is used by the community groups,” Gunther said.
Gunther said there are plans to put a pavilion up in the village park, possibly as early as next year. He said the board and the public works department will see how this year goes with the new concession stand/public bathroom. Gunther said the building should be finished within the next two or three weeks.
