Edmund Joseph Brown, age 90, of New Richmond, died unexpectedly and peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 21.
Ed was born May 18, 1922, in the Town of Richmond, to George Joseph and Grace (McNamara) Brown. He was a lifelong resident of the New Richmond area and a graduate of St. Mary’s School and New Richmond High School. On June 25, 1946, he married Eleanor Lyons of Glenwood City. They raised eight children and enjoyed witnessing the many personal accomplishments and professional successes of their children and grandchildren. He was a loving and supportive father and husband. He was an honorable man and admirable role model to his descendants. He had many lifelong true friends.
Professionally, Ed was a dairy farmer, custom harvester, heavy truck driver, golf course equipment operator, and most notably, a 67-year school bus driver for New Richmond schools, beginning when he was 19 years old. He delivered untold numbers of students to school and home again. It is a common occurrence that acquaintances will happily volunteer that Ed Brown "was my bus driver." He took pride in transporting marching bands and sports teams safely through all road and weather challenges.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception parish his whole life. The Knights of Columbus recently gave him special recognition for over 70 years of service. He was an inductee in the New Richmond Bowling Hall of Fame. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, motorcycles, horses, and playing cards. For years, he and Eleanor attended Saturday night dances in the area. He enjoyed sharing life stories with his family of the good times and adventures with his friends, his Irish heritage, of growing up during the Depression in a time when horses pulled a plow and the cows were milked by hand.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Rita and Elaine (Brown) Kocian.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; sister Bernice; children,Pat (Linette) Brown, Jan Brown, Paul Brown, Lee (Sue) Brown, Mike Brown, Rita (Terry) Patterson, Don (Louise) Brown, and Maryann (Mike) Golinvaux; grandchildren, Ryan Brown, Regan (Rachel) Brown, Megan (JP) Kinder, Kelly (Tom) Griffin, Stacey (Aaron) Dilley, Jami (Lee) Linder, Jessica (Scott) Sterba, Jodi (Terry) McCord, Durand Brown, Michelle Brown, Scott Bader, Mark Bader, Gavin Brown, Delaney Brown, Stephani Brown, Nicholas Golinvaux, Brett Golinvaux, and Kelsi Golinvaux; 15 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
