Louise St. Germain, 94

Louise Martha (Martin) St. Germain, age 94, of Baldwin, died Thursday, Dec. 13, at the Baldwin Care Center.

Louise was born on Jan. 10, 1918, in the Township of Forest, Wis., the daughter of Herman and Hulda (Hahn) Martin. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church at Forest. After graduating school, she worked in the Clear Lake area as a housekeeper. On Oct. 7, 1939, she was united in marriage to C. Albert Jourdeans at the parsonage in Glenwood City. Two children, Shirley and Fred, were born to his union. Albert would precede her in death early in their marriage. She later married Norbert St. Germain on Aug. 15, 1950; to this union four children were born: Carolyn, Mary, twins Bob and Betty.

Together, they lived in Pleasant Valley Township and raised their family. Louise was born to be a homemaker. She loved tending to her family, raising a large garden with both vegetables and flowers that she shared with family and friends.

Louise was very active in Homemakers, achieving the 50-year mark with the Hillcrest Club. Due to her love of gardening, baking, and canning, she made an accomplished leader with the Valley Victors 4-H club. She will be remembered for her wonderful pickle making talents, which included various vegetables and fish.

She was devoted to loving and serving her Lord. She had been a driving force in faith for Peace Lutheran Church. There she served in many capacities, from Sunday school teacher and superintendent, choir member, to president of the Ladies Aid and cherished member of several Circle groups. She was known as the "flower lady" for displaying flowers at church, as well as taking flowers to area nursing home residents.

Louise was custodian for the Peace Lutheran Church for over 40 years. She also cleaned houses for many people in Hammond and the Hudson area.

Louise was the current author of the "Pleasant Valley News" where she wrote about community, remembering birthdays and anniversaries, and her Food for Thought and Prayer for the Day in area newspapers for many years.

Countless people will remember her gift of quilting. Many family and friends were privileged enough to call one of her creations theirs. She made them for anyone who could benefit from one, near or far.

Her beautiful smile and generous heart will be missed by all who knew her.

A funeral service for Louise will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, at Peace Lutheran Church in Baldwin. Visitation will be held for 1 hour prior to services at church as well as from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, at the O'Connell Funeral Home in Baldwin, 715-684-3434, www.oconnellfuneralhomes.com.
