Somerset native Megan Plourde has earned All-American honors for the fourth time in her college volleyball career.
Plourde, one of the top players in Colorado State University history, has now earned recognition from the AVCA each season of her career, including a third-team selection in 2011 and three honorable mentions (2009, 2010 and 2012). She is the only player in CSU and Mountain West history to do so. Plourde also was named a Volleyball Magazine All-American in 2011.
In 2012, the middle blocker averaged 1.53 blocks per set, which ranks eighth nationally. Her .358 hitting percentage ranks in the top 50 and first in the MWC. Plourde also placed second on the team with 2.91 kills per set. She is a four-time All-Mountain West selection and in September was named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week.
For her career, Plourde totaled 613 total blocks, second in program history. What’s more, her 1.47 blocks-per-set average ranks second, and her 584 career block assists are a program record. She also tied a CSU mark with 1.71 blocks per set in 2011, which led the nation. She is one of two players in CSU history to record 1,000 kills and 600 blocks.
“Meg is consistent,” Hilbert said. “She knows how to play well, especially in the most critical moments and against good competition. She had a fantastic senior season and a great career. Once you’re an All-American you’re always an All-American. She can say that for the rest of her life.”
Plourde and teammate Dana Cranston were among the 112 AVCA All-Region selections, 50 are seniors, but just four—including Plourde—have earned all-region honors each year of their careers. Plourde is the first player in CSU and Mountain West history to earn the recognition each year of her career. No other CSU player has been represented more than twice.
Plourde also graduated from Colorado State last week.
