New Richmond’s economic development efforts have landed two more new businesses.
Culvers Restaurant has signed an agreement to build next to the GrandStay Hotel and Suites, which will be constructed to the north of Walmart in 2013.
Robert Barbian, city planning and community development director, said the city has been working with Culvers for many months and the deal finally came together.
“We will be working with Culvers over the next several months on their site layout and development through the Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council,” Barbian said.
Barley Johns Brewery of New Brighton, Minn. has also signed an agreement to come to New Richmond.
The brewery operation will be located near 45th Parallel, the local distillery.
“We are excited that Barley Johns chose to move its award winning beer across the border and expand their brewery business in the City of New Richmond,” said Mike Darrow, city administrator.
Darrow said the operation decided to expand in Wisconsin due to strict regulations in Minnesota related to the import and export of beer.
John Moore and wife Laura Subak founded Barley John’s Brew Pub in 2000. After years of homebrewing, and a degree in nutritional sciences from the University of Minnesota, Moore completed coursework from the Siebel Institute of Brewing Sciences. After brewing for the now defunct District Brewing in downtown Minneapolis and James Page Brewing, Moore took his passion and experience to his own business.
