When sisters Linda Gibson and Cindy Gibson heard about Jan Praschak’s medical issues, they immediately wanted to help.
A large mass was found in Praschak’s kidney in March 2011 and she had to undergo surgery to remove it. In 2012, a CT scan showed a spot developing on her lung. The spot spread to several spots and Praschak started chemotherapy in August.
To help with the financial burden of Praschak’s medical bills, Cindy Gibson said a benefit is being thrown in her honor at Star Prairie Sports Bar.
While she’s not a relative, Praschak is a hometown girl and Star Prairie sticks together, Gibson said.
“She has a big heart and she has two boys,” Gibson said. “We just wanted to do something to help her out.”
Praschak’s latest CT scan shows a reduction in the size of the cancer; however, several treatments, scans and appointments will be needed before anyone can relax, Gibson said.
The “Little Jingle for Jan” benefit is planned for 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, at Star Prairie Sports Bar. A spaghetti dinner is slated for 4 to 7 p.m. Other events, including a 50/50 raffle, silent auction and live music, will also happen throughout the evening.
For those who would like to help, but are unable to attend the benefit, an account has been set up for Praschak at Royal Credit Union in New Richmond. Anyone who would like to donate to the silent auction or raffle is encouraged to call Star Prairie Sports Bar at 715-248-7018.
