Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Bert Blyleven led the Minnesota Twins Winter Caravan to New Richmond on Wednesday morning.
Blyleven and Twins pitchers Cole DeVries and Liam Hendriks spent an hour at R&D Catering in New Richmond on Wednesday, with approximately 70 Twins fans in attendance.
Blyleven is now the color analyst for Twins television broadcasts and he was quite comfortable handling the emcee duties for the Twins visit. With Blyleven and the two current players all being pitchers, much of their discussion centered around the art of pitching.
The two current players couldn’t come from more different backgrounds. DeVries grew up in Eden Prairie, Minn., and attended the University of Minnesota. Hendriks is from the other side of the world. He is one of a handful of players the Twins have signed from Australia.
The event was done to give Twins fans a chance to get know some of the players and DeVries and Hendriks were open about their careers and their aspirations. They are both listed as possibilities for the fifth spot in the Twins’ starting rotation and said they are competitive people who are working hard to win that starting position.
For the final 15 minutes of the visit, each of the Twins signed autographs for the fans in attendance.
