LETTER: Are county reps representing us?

The voters of St. Croix County have indicated at several elections that they want to keep the Health Center in New Richmond.

To the Editor:

The voters of St. Croix County have indicated at several elections that they want to keep the Health Center in New Richmond.

However, the St. Croix County Board decided not to ask the electors if they wanted to sell the land around the health center. A small group of the county board contacted a realtor/auctioneer to sell the land, with the money not to be used for the Health Center itself, but for a new Health and Human Services building.

The present H & H Services building could have been kept up with a little maintenance as years went by. But now they want to condemn that building because of the condition it’s in and claim they need to sell the land to pay for this new building and other county facilities.

The sale of this land should be put toward the Health Center for a new facility, but when that time comes, the money will be gone.

Being this land is owned by St. Croix County, why didn’t the board get a Realtor from St. Croix County? This Realtor will make over $100,000 for a half hours work.

The claim is the bridge coming in will make this land valuable now, but why can’t we keep it for a few more years until after the new bridge comes in and it will be more valuable yet?

The county must be making some money off of it now renting it out to area farmers.
