The Somerset boys basketball game has advanced to the WIAA Division 3 regional championship game.
The Spartans will host that game at 7 p.m. this Saturday, facing Hayward.
Somerset defeated Spooner 68-40 in Friday’s Division 3 regional game, while Hayward had to fight to the end to beat Northwestern 33-30 on Friday.
Somerset was led by Tyler Ledbeter and Jack Emmert in Friday’s win, with each of the Spartan guards scoring 17 points. Ledbeter scored all 17 of his points in the first half as the Spartans rolled up a 41-18 halftime lead.
Somerset senior Gabe Flandrick has reached the WIAA State Wrestling championship round for the second straight year. Flandrick will compete for the Division 2 160 pound championship in the 6 p.m. session on Saturday at Kohl Center in Madison. Flandrick (43-2) will face Ellsworth’s Gable Frandsen (44-6) in the state championships. This is a rematch of the Middle Border Conference 160-pound championship, where Flandrick was the champion.
Flandrick advanced to the state championship match by defeating Marinette’s Jaden Boivin (44-2) in the state semifinals by a 3-1 score in a dramatic overtime finish. Frandsen advanced with an 8-5 win over Brett Scoles of Kewaskum.
