Two persons were arrested early Tuesday morning after search warrants were executed at two residences in separate areas of St. Croix County.
Chief Deputy Scott Knudson said St. Croix County sheriff’s deputies, the Pierce County SWAT team and federal agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms and Tobacco (ATF) were involved in a joint effort that included a search for stolen property including firearms.
“The search warrants were executed at about 7 a.m. at 159 Ponderosa Dr. east of River Falls and the other at 35 County E in Houlton,” said Knudson, “The Pierce County SWAT team headed up the Ponderosa Dr. operation.”
According to St. Croix County property records, the location on Ponderosa is a single-family home owned by Duane and Sharlene Cernohous, situated on two acres and valued at $121,000. The second property at Houlton, in the town of St. Joseph, is owned by CJB Rentals LLC of Houlton and is valued at $50,000.
“We were assisting the ATF in a large scale investigation in which guns were involved,” he said.
Ambulance personnel from River Falls and Lakeview had crews standing near the scene of each raid when the warrants were served. Both services were released once suspects were taken into custody and the respective buildings had been searched.
The two suspects arrested had not been formally charged and their names were being withheld Tuesday. They are expected to appear in St. Croix County Circuit Court on local charges, said Knudson.
