UPDATE: Bridge crash that snarled Tuesday commute is clearedA multi-vehicle crash in the westbound lanes of I-94 had traffic backed up three miles into Wisconsin shortly after 8 a.m., Tuesday. All lanes were reopened at 8:42 a.m. and the scene was clear at 9:20 a.m.
A multi-vehicle crash in the westbound lanes of I-94 at 7:40 a.m. backed up traffic at least three miles into Wisconsin and sent several injured to area hospitals. The scene was cleared in about an hour.
At least one patient was transported to Lakeview Hospital at Stillwater and another to Hudson Hospital.
A passerby said it appeared a large pickup was sideways in the westbound lanes near the Bayport exit and firefighters had removed the doors to free passengers. At least two other passenger cars appeared to be damaged.
One lane was open at 8:15 a.m. but delays continued for an hour.
Troopers from both Wisconsin- and Minnesota State Patrol were on the scene, along with firefighters from Hudson and Lower St. Croix and ambulances from St. Croix EMS.
A reader also writes that other agencies involved included Bayport Fire & Rescue, Bayport EMS and police, Lakeview EMS, and sheriff's deputies from Washington and St. Croix counties.
Commuter traffic is heavier than usual due to the closure of the lift-bridge at Stillwater.
