Somerset's Flandrick makes it to semifinals

Gabe Flandrick came out ahead on a flurry of action late in the third period and emreged a semifinalist at the WIAA State Wrestling Tournament at the Kohl Center this morning.

MADISON - Gabe Flandrick came out ahead on a flurry of action late in the third period and emerged a semifinalist at the WIAA State Wrestling Tournament at the Kohl Center this morning.

The Somerset senior was tied with Alex Peters of West Salem/Bangor 1-1 at 160 pounds when he scored a late takedown. Peters, in a rush, was able to get away from Flandrick but Flandrick quickly took him back down the mat and scored a takedown for a 5-2 win.

Flandrick will take on Marinette's Jaden Boivin (41-1), who beat St. Croix Central's Cody Nyhagen 4-3 in overtime. The semifinals start at 7 p.m.

Somerset's other wrestler in the quarterfinals, Bobby LeRoy, lost a close match, 2-1, to 2-1 to Tristan Zurfluh of Sparta. Zurfluh scored a reversal late in the third period after LeRoy had led 1-0 going in the final period. He will wrestle in the consolation round later this afternoon.
