Stevens Point will play Verona Saturday for the Division 1 state high school softball championship.

Point remained unbeaten after eliminating Wausau West 6-1 in last night’s semi-finals in Madison.

Verona topped Hartland Arrowhead 6-3 in the other semi.

Rain delayed the start of the tournament by four hours, but all of the scheduled contests got in.

In the earlier quarter-finals, Stevens Point eliminated Oak Creek 8-1. Wausau West got by Mequon Homestead 6-5.

Verona took a 1-0 game over Middleton and Arrowhead did away with Appleton East 4-1.

Today (Friday), semi-finals will be played in three other divisions.

The Division 4 semis are up first. Thorp will face Burlington Catholic Central and Chippewa Falls McDonell takes on Highland.

The Division 3 semis will be played this afternoon. Sevastopol, the tournament’s only returning champion, goes against unbeaten Oakfield. And Park Falls plays La Crosse Aquinas.

The Division 2 semi-finals will wrap up today’s action.

Southern Door plays New Berlin Eisenhower and Rice Lake faces Monroe.

All four title games are set for Saturday.
