This storm water utiltiy fee is a scam, that spread throughout the twin cities metro area, as a way of bypassing the property tax limits and the voters. Once one of the St. Croix cities gets this through it will spread like wildfire, to all the towns in the county. What actual service are we getting for this storm water fee? They say the runoff sediment is going in the Apple River, so what are they actually proposing to do? At most they would build a settling pond (see the caption under the photo to see the type of mitigation that the Somerset ordinance requires) and the Apple is hardly a pristine waterway. How are sediments being generated from imperious surfaces like rooftops (the main non-perious exclusion for homeowners) producing our residential ERU, since there are none? Storm sewers have always been considered to be a basic city service, so all they are doing is shifting it off the current property taxes (and you can bet that your property taxes will not go down accordingly) to this non-taxpayer approved fee. If I make it on the Star Prairie Town Board this April 6th, I will do what I can to fight this type of governement scam. Gary Hanson
