David, Madison Wisconsin 2/12/10 I I just learned of Jalmer's death while checking the NR News web page. My sympathy to Grace, Mick and Julie and other family members. Riding a block with Jalmer is one of those childhood memories I treasure. His laugh and wide smile were memorable as was his warmth and love of people. As kids we had no idea how early he had to get up before he began delivering milk. In those days no one locked their doors so Jalmer would set the milk inside the back door of our house--which was just two houses away from his. We could never talk our Mom into getting flavored milk but we could get either that or orange drink in school from Sanitary Dairy. Jalmer was an important part of city life while we were growing up and like so many other New Richmond men, he served a long stint in the military during WW II and then came back home and went on with his life. Bless his memory and his contribution to our community.

JALMER AND MY HUSBAND MIKE ARE SHARING A GLASS OF MILK UP IN HEAVEN NOW. JALMER WAS OUR "MILKMAN" WHILE MIKE AND I LIVED IN NEW RICHMOND, BEFORE MOVING TO ARIZONA. THAT SWEET MAN WOULD KEEP US SUPPLIED IN MILK AND ALL THOSE GOOD DAIRY PRODUCTS....SETTING THEM ON OUR DOORSTEP. HE WAS A WONDERFUL PERSON, ALWAYS SO HAPPY AND FRIENDLY AND KIND. WE WERE JUST YOUNG NEWLYWEDS THEN, JUST STARTING OUT, IN THE EARLY 1970'S....AND I JUST REMEMBER SO CLEARLY JALMER COMING IN THE HOUSE WHEN WE BROUGHT HOME OUR NEWBORN SON, AND ADMIRING HIM. HAVING JUST LOST MY HUSBAND MIKE A FEW MONTHS AGO, I WOULD TRULY LOVE TO THINK THAT JALMER AND MIKE ARE INDEED UP IN HEAVEN, TALKING ABOUT NEW RICHMOND AND OLD TIMES. MY SYMPATHIES TO THE FAMILY. PEACE TO YOUR HEARTS. SUSAN POLFUS
