John Ward, 69

John William Ward, age 69, of Milwaukee, Wis., and formerly of New Richmond, Wis., died peacefully in his sleep on March 9, 2010, at his home in Milwaukee.

He was born on April 11, 1940, in St. Cloud, Minn., to William “Bill” and Isabel (Severson) Ward. John was a graduate of St. John’s University and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School. He proudly served in the Army Intelligence Unit in Korea. John continued his career with the Interstate Reporting Company as a professional investigator until his retirement.

John was a kind spirit, quiet in nature but spoke with powerful wisdom. He was always interested and accepting of others and a champion of the underdog. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Brian Michael Ward, Dennis Patrick Ward; and his longtime companion, Bernice Harris.

John is survived by his sister, Margaret (Peg) Patrick Moore; brother, Mark (Joyce) Ward; nieces and nephews, Shannon (David) LeVesseur, Linda (Steve) Knaak, Matthew (Jennifer) Ward, Tim Ward, Chris (Wendy) Ward, Donyale McQueen and also several great-nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Saturday, May 1, at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Erin Prairie, Wis. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. The family would like to invite everyone to a luncheon immediately following the Mass in Blarney Hall in the church basement. John will be laid to rest at St. Bridget’s Cemetery in Stanton, Wis.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation JDRF, 26 Broadway 14th Floor, New York, New York, 10004.

To Mark and Peggy: Sorry to hear of John's passing. Remember time spent with John and Mark during the early teen years. Despite my being from the other side of the tracks, those were good years. Tom Parent Burnsville, MN
