Thomas Shimon, 59

August 31, 2010

Thomas Edward Shimon, age 59, of Somerset, Wis., passed away peacefully at his home on August 31, 2010, after a short battle with lung cancer.

Tom was born on Sept. 28, 1950, to George and Eleanore (Mendel) Shimon and grew up in St. Paul, Minn. In 1970 Tom met Mary Lehnen at the Falcon Lanes Bowling Alley and the two were joined together in marriage in 1972. Once married, they moved to Lake Elmo, Minn., where they would be blessed with three beautiful children: Michele, Tammy and Frank. In 1979 they realized they needed more room, so they moved to St. Paul where they lived until 1992. Finally in 1992 they moved to Somerset where they remain to this day. Tom was a dedicated family man and set an example of good work ethic. He worked for 21 years at Andersen Windows as a plastic extrusion operator. He then put in 6 years at SMC in Somerset as a factory worker. His last job was at Preco Laser in Somerset where he eventually became a shift supervisor.

When he wasn’t working he enjoyed relaxing with one of his many hobbies. He was a tinkerer and inventor and was always playing with different electronics and gadgets. He also enjoyed any hands-on activities and was very good with carpentry. Every home the family lived in was somehow remodeled and fixed up by Tom at one point or another. He was a big Green Bay Packer backer as well as a WWE pro wrestling fan and though he described himself as shy, he was always up for conversation with friends and family. One of his biggest passions was fishing and he loved to share this activity with his family. He was willing to do anything for anybody who needed help, and was always there with advice and ideas. What made all of his activities and hobbies special was that he could share them with his family, whom he loved very much.

Tom will remain in the hearts of his wife, Mary of Somerset; daughter, Michele (Joseph) Marz of Osceola; daughter, Tammy (fiancé Curtis) Shimon of Somerset; son, Frank (Callie) Shimon of Dresser; grandchildren, Danielle, Tanner, Aveah, Jocelyn and Olivia; father, George Shimon of Arden Hills, Minn.; sister, Marlene (Ed) Weil of Cape Cod, Mass.; mother-in-law, Gen Lehnen of St. Paul; as well as many other relatives and dear friends.

Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Eleanore, and father-in-law, Clement Lehnen.

Funeral services for Tom will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, at the Prairieview Covenant Church in New Richmond, Wis. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson, Wis., as well as 1 hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church. Memorials preferred.

Services are in the care of the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson.
